Two hours classes:
Head less – losing control
Angela-Mara Florant
Focussing attention on the roundest body part, the highest point of the body, resting on the spine, which contains all the senses and the brain, is hard but extremely fragile – the head.
Letting go of the head, resting our heads on each other’s body and falling head first… trusting our partner, controlling and losing control. How can the head lead us into a dance? How is it when the head serves as hands to navigate surfaces through touch? The class will include bodywork and other exercises to raise awareness of the head and neck.
Relational compositions
Heidi Käfer
How does movement emerge through relationship? In this workshop we explore responsibility – the ability to respond – care and mutual support. As a an embodied practice that matters both on and beyond the dancefloor.
Reframing Hands: from Taboo to Tool
Karthik Rajmohan
In many Contact Improvisation spaces, the use of hands can feel taboo – seen as too directive, too controlling, or too reminiscent of codified partner dance forms.
Yet the hands hold rich potential for communication, connection, and creativity.
In this class, we’ll examine how the hands can be used to listen as well as initiate, to follow, to lead, and to support- not with dominance, but with clarity and sensitivity.
We’ll play with tone, weight, intention, and direction, opening new doors for improvisation and shared momentum.
Together we’ll question assumptions, expand our vocabulary, and discover how the hands-when used with awareness- can become powerful tools for connection, not control.
All levels welcome. Bring your hands, your curiosity, and your willingness to explore.
Warm up Classes:
Emergent sculptures
Katja Bahini
We’ll start by tuning into ourselves, then see what becomes possible with the space and others.
Through open invitations, we’ll explore questions like: What do I need to feel ready for the jam? How do I sense connection and belonging? What keeps my curiosity alive in the dance?
In and Out of Contact – Navigating the Possibilities of Proximity
Dino Spiri
As a base to start exploring from, we’ll play with basic CI principles that are both simple and rich in complexity – technique-based proposals that involve sharing weight, leaning, and listening, while moving through space and levels.
Once we’ve established a grounded and juicy connection, I’d love to invite more subtle possibilities of touch where communication becomes finer and more detailed, without necessarily becoming slower or less juicy. I’m fascinated by the possibilities opening up when we invest in communication at the level of our kinespheres – that beautiful space of almost-touch, when we are close enough to make contact at any moment, yet don’t necessarily have to.
There can be a real sense of freedom in moving together without physical touch, while still sensing a clear and tangible connection with one’s partner. And of course, returning to touch is always available. How might our dances shift as we move in and out of contact?
Warm up into Jam
Jonas Marx
This warm-up serves as a frame to first arrive with our bodies and minds in the space and the present moment – and from there to gently transist into the jam.
Through somatic material and short awareness exercises, we begin by cultivating a connection to ourselves and our bodies. From there, we gradually open into connection with others and the shared space, fostering a sense of collective presence and compositional awareness.
The warm-up is offered as an invitation: you are welcome to engage with the material in ways and to the degree that feel supportive and relevant to you in the moment. This way, we create an attentive and shared entry into the jam.
